I found this guy unable to fly in our backyard the other day. He was flapping frantically but couldn't get off the ground. I picked him up and saw that he had a large gash under his breast and between his legs. A local vet clinic directed me to the Wild Bird Rehab Haven - a group of volunteers that care for Hawaii's birds for re-release or permanent housing. I met up with Leslie, a fellow
Mililani resident, who is currently caring for 38 birds; it looks like this one has a good chance -
yay! A big
MAHALO to the Wild Bird Rehab Haven for the work that they do!
We came to the conclusion that a cat must have had at it. I don't have cats but a neighbor has feral cats that wander around the neighborhood and in our yard - so annoying! I can't wait to get some dogs.

Yay!! All I can think of right now is that song from Family Dog "Birdies on my head! Birdies on my head!"
