A Rainy Night in Meatpacking District by Jayne

Autumn in New York 2

These are all shot in front of Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan. The red trees are SO vibrant I really feel like these photos due no justice to their intensity.

Autumn in New York

My favorite time of year is Fall. I may be bias since I was born in November but it really is such a beautiful time in New York. Here are a few snap shots I took in Brooklyn by our office and in Stuyvesant town too.

Makalawena Beach by Ashley

Makalawena Beach on Big Island.

Ashley Shoots!

Meet Ashley, our newest HI-Extension. We're enjoying Retsina and gyros at the annual Greek Festival in Honolulu - I love how shades always photograph well. She gets great shots (photographs, that is) due to her island-hopping. Thanks for sharing, Ash!

Guess who's coming to town . . .

Every year, I know it's Christmas on the islands when Big Santa appears on top of Ala Moana Shopping Center - he's ginormous. I think I prefer Santa Claus at the end of Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade; he seems more welcoming and at least waits to celebrate Thanksgiving. I took this photo on the 7th, the big guy is probably up already.

See Jayne Shoot!

This is my friend, Jayne (with the Lei Crown). She's the newest 'NY-extension' of this blog. I've already got a couple of great fall photos from her; as soon as I can figure out how to post them from my raspberry . . . oops! I mean blackberry.
Mahalo, Jayne, for sharing your NY 'Island' scenes with me and my sister!

I love when the sky turns pink and orange.

For the Birds!

I found this guy unable to fly in our backyard the other day. He was flapping frantically but couldn't get off the ground. I picked him up and saw that he had a large gash under his breast and between his legs. A local vet clinic directed me to the Wild Bird Rehab Haven - a group of volunteers that care for Hawaii's birds for re-release or permanent housing. I met up with Leslie, a fellow Mililani resident, who is currently caring for 38 birds; it looks like this one has a good chance - yay! A big MAHALO to the Wild Bird Rehab Haven for the work that they do!
We came to the conclusion that a cat must have had at it. I don't have cats but a neighbor has feral cats that wander around the neighborhood and in our yard - so annoying! I can't wait to get some dogs.

A Very Merry Un-Birthday

I just received a birthday card from my parents - 4 months after my birthday. So I thought this would be a nice opportunity to share a couple of pix turning 31-derful: pizza and a red velvet cupcake - yum!
J.J. Dolan's is THE closest thing to NY Pizza I will ever get in Hawaii. An Irish-style pub in Chinatown, made by a Jersey boy, baked in a pizza oven, served on aluminum pans, accompanied by Parmesan cheese and crushed red pepper, with a crispy thin crust dough-y enough to bend, and just enough oil to leave translucent prints on my paper plate. Now if we could just work on the garlic knots and the Italian Ices, I'd be set. I love their window!

As the March Hare and Mad Hatter sing,
A Very, Merry Un-Birthday
To me?
To YOU!

Our Plumeria Tree

It's summer and the Plumeria tree in our front planter is in full bloom. It's times like these that make me reconsider getting rid of it. It's fragrant and lovely to look at. On the other hand, ants like to dwell in the trunk and blooms, people 'rape' the tree of the flowers for lei and ear/hair accessories, and it's a messy tree (read: giant leaves falling that need to be raked). I guess I'll wait until the end of summer to decide. One of the things that would be hard to find in NYC.

Downtown Saturday Sunshower

I took this picture downtown while I was with Elsie and Sarah.
This is what lead to the few rainbows I saw later in the day.

It's been raining more than usual for June here in New York.
I'm so shocked to have been able to see 3 rainbows in one day!
Including this slight double rainbow.

Rainbow Squared

This was taken a couple of years ago in front of my house. I am literally standing in the driveway. This should explain why it's the Rainbow state. Of course, you can't have a rainbow without the "rain."

Brooklyn Street Art

Here's some street art around the office in Williamsburg. I really like these wheat-pasted NES cartridges that are re-mixed. This one is titled AC Slater's Preppie Pump Up Saved By The Dumbbell.

Love the way this person draws. What an interesting looking character.

This spray painted stencil is SO detailed it's quite amazing.

Mike Tyson's Punch Out 2. Check out how they pixelized his face tatoo! And the description of Ear Biting Action!
