1st blog - Hamakua Coast, Hilo

So, this is my first blog and I'm sorry that it's so late. You'll have to excuse some of the posts since they will be from the last year or so. I'm just now getting into taking the camera with me and/or using the one on my Raspberry (Red Blackberry). I got inspired to finally post from my recent trip to Hilo on the Big Island of Hawaii.

It was a business trip to check out the site for a new venture I'll be pursuing - investing in tropical hardwoods. Although for business, it was a much needed break from the city (ironic because I live in the 'burbs now) and the vog (volcanic ash - yuck!).

It's amazing how different the islands are from one another and even within the islands themselves. Hilo is on the wet side of the Big Island. Although on the island with the greatest volcanic activity, the air and climate is cool, clear and refreshing. I could actually breathe and my throat didn't feel like it was on fire (side effects of vog)! The land is all private property and pasture land (you can tell by the clover) with some old growth koa trees that are being cleared for the new planting. It was beautiful!

All in all, it was a gorgeous day and very productive as well. Another island this "Island" Girl (Manhattan Island, that is) has fallen in love with.

Blue View

I took this picture from Danielle's window. We saw the clouds outside and felt they looked liked mountains in the city. It came out blue but I like it like that.

The Paley Park

Correct me if I'm wrong Sis, but I think this may be the Park where Mama and Papa met. This is up on 53rd Street. I know at least they spent several lunches here together during Papa's delivery days.

Rainy Tuesday

I love taking these blurry pictures. It's one of my favorite things to do when its rainy. There's so much contrast in the evening with lights reflected off of wet pavement.

This was just funny. Had to take a pic. Thought of Disco Stu from the Simpsons.

You can see the scope of fog that was on the city. I tried my best to get a clear shot of this but to no avail. I had no tripod. What a gloomy day.

Good Snow

Finally there was a good blanket of snow in New York. I was on my way home very early in the morning when the snow began to fall. The city was so peaceful and quiet.

The next morning I took a picture of a tree my family loves that is in our neighborhood. It looks like its grown bigger since we were kids Yas.
